Naresh N. Rimal,
M.Sc.
Mr. Rimal is a founder of SEEP and is a native of Nepal. His research
specialty is in watershed management, surface and subsurface water quality,
solid and waste management (research, outreach and education) and
environmental policy. He has been actively pursuing various environmental
research projects in both developed and developing countries. In the United
States, he has been involved in environmental research in federal and state
level funded projects. Internationally, he has been exposed to several
environmental research projects that involved multi-lateral and bi-lateral
donor agencies and private companies. Mr. Rimal received his Masters of
Science degree in Environmental Science and Policy. His degrees reflect a
blend of a science and policy based on understanding the interdisciplinary
nature of complex environmental issues involving various stakeholders. He
said "The value of such learning lies in today's world in search of
solutions to environmental problems". He is pursuing Ph.D. in environmental
science focusing on water quality and MPNA from the USA.
Jay R.
Ghimire, M.Sc.
Mr. Ghimire is a mining engineer at the Department of Mines & Geology, His
Majesty’s Government of Nepal. He has extensive experience in execution of
geological and exploratory work, prospect evaluation of mine design and
planning, perform environmental study and prepare technical reports. He has
reported interpretation of geological and exploratory drilling data on
exploratory diamond drilling project on limestone in western Nepal. Prior to
this Mr. Ghimire was a mining engineer at Nepal Metal Company Limited where
he worked on yearly planning and analyze return study in different models.
He has extensive training in open cast iron ore, underground coal, and
underground copper mining. Mr. Ghimire received his advanced degree from
Trondheim University, Norway.
Digambar D.
Dahal, M.A.
Mr. Dahal is a student of sociology/social works at Tribhuvan University. He
has over 15 years of experience in information technology. He has taught
courses in computer skill development to several employees of governmental,
non-governmental institutions, students and etc. He has also worked as a
consultant to local agencies and United Nations, World Bank projects in data
analysis in connection to rural development in Nepal. He is currently
employed by the World Food Program (WFP), Nepal- country office.
Anupama T.
Basnet, Dr.
Dr. Basnet obtained medical degree from Shanghai Medical University,
People's Republic of China. She performs surgery at Kanti Children’s
Hospital of HMG/Nepal and serves in OPD. She has also worked in medical,
surgical and emergency department at the Bir Hospital, the largest hospital
in Nepal. She is also certified in medical treatment through acupuncture.
She is fluent in Chinese language and attended Beijing Language Institute,
People's Republic of China. She is also the member of Nepal Medical Council.
Dr. Basnet’s research interest is in paediatric surgery.
Ira
Rajbhandari, M.Sc.
Mrs. Rajbhandari has Masters of Science in Pharmacognosy and Microbiology
from the University of Mississippi in USA and Tribhuban University, Nepal.
Her research was in extracting antimicrobial compounds from aquatic and
marine organisms and study on Beta-Lactamase activity by microbiological and
biochemical methods in Staphylococcos aureus isolated from healthy nasal
carriers and hospital isolates.
Sabina A.
Rimal, M.B.A.
Mrs. Rimal holds MBA degree from Tribhuvan University in Nepal. She has a
science background on her undergraduate degree. She is interested in
understanding women’s situation in Nepal, relating to societal abuse and
neglect. She wants to promote women’s issues to the front of environmental
stewardship in Nepal and abroad.
MEMBERS OF ADVISORY BOARD
Bijay
B. Rana, M.A.
Mr. Rana has 20 years of work experience in rural development. He has been
involved as project coordinator in a several Agricultural Projects Services
Centre (APPROSC) projects in Nepal. He has organized and participated as
project coordinator in developing national level policies and procedures on
planning, formulation, implementation and monitoring of water supply and
sanitation projects/programs in Nepal. He was also a project coordinator,
undertaking a study of the policies and procedures adopted by HMG/N at the
National level on planning and implementation of the various water supply
and sanitation projects/programs operational within governmental programs.
He has reviewed various drinking water projects under MPLD at the
macro-level and undertook case studies of the projects at the micro-level.
He has been involved in water use inventory study of several local levels.
He holds M.S. in Rural Development from Benguet State University,
Philippines, M.A. in Business Economics from University of Delhi, India and
M.A. in economic from Tribhuvan University in Nepal.
Kumiko
Nakano, Masc., R.N.
Ms. Nakano is a native of Osaka, Japan. She has a first hand knowledge of
consequences of rapid economic growth in Thailand and Nepal. She is keenly
interested in social equity, infectious epidemiology, chronic epidemiology,
international health and nutrition. She worked as a girl guide (scout) in
Thailand, assisting in the implementation of programs such as community
needs assessment, local school establishment, teaching hygiene and
particular diseases (e.g. STDs, infectious diseases) in girl guide camps and
reporting to the UN agencies. She also worked for Save the Children-US in
Nepal in assessing community perspectives and technical competence of the
social marketing of antibiotics by female community health volunteers
through questionnaire development, interviews, focus group, and data
management. She is an active member of International NGO-ECPAT-Kansai (End
Child Pornography and Sex Tourism) and Japanese NGO-SHARE (Services for the
Health in Asia and African Regions) in Japan. Her research interest is in
international health and epidemiology especially in developing countries.
Besides her Masters of Public Health degree from University of Arizona, she
is finishing her degree in nursing from the U.S.
V.M.G.
Nair, Ph.D.
Dr. Nair is a Professor of Forest and Plant Pathology-Mycology in Department
of Natural and Applied Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Dr
Nair received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from India and Ph.D. from University of
Wisconsin-Madison. His field of interest is in international quarantine and
disease control programs of plant-forest tree diseases; Weedicide-Silvicide
applications in the establishment of exotic tree species in developing
countries and their aftereffects on wildlife and fishes; preservation of
tropical forests species and forest medicinal plants; host parasite
interactions of vascular wilt and canker pathogens; electron and
three-dimension electron microscopy. Dr. Nair has received many honors and
awards and international travel grants from United Nations agencies,
National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Agency for
International Development, Ministries of Agriculture and Forestry of various
countries, British and German Overseas Development Committee, etc.
